The Seven Characters of Abuse

The Seven Characters of Abuse: Domestic Violence, Where It Starts and Where It Can End is more than a book for me—it is a mission and a message that has become deeply personal. As the youngest sister of Nicole Brown Simpson, I witnessed the devastating impact domestic violence can have on an individual, a family, and an entire community. For years, I advocated, educated, and shared Nicole’s story in hopes of helping others recognize warning signs and find their own path to safety and healing.
Then life brought me face-to-face with my own experience of domestic violence trauma. After being granted a five-year restraining order, carrying that order with me for years became a painful but powerful reminder that domestic violence does not discriminate. It can touch anyone—regardless of age, background, profession, or experience. It also reminded me that even those who educate and advocate are not immune to unhealthy relationships and the complex realities that surround them.
This experience made The Seven Characters of Abuse even more meaningful and urgent. Through this book, I help readers identify the many faces and patterns of abuse, understand how unhealthy behaviors often develop over time, and recognize warning signs before they escalate. My hope is that readers feel informed, empowered, and reminded that there is strength in awareness, courage in seeking help, and healing beyond the pain. No one should feel alone, and no one should believe abuse is something they simply have to endure.
